Job Summary and Essential Functions

The New York Independent System Operator (NYISO) applies cutting-edge technology to operating a reliable electricity system, managing competitive markets for wholesale electricity, and planning for the Empire State's energy future. The NYISO invites applications for a full-time summer intern on the Market Operations team.

Every year, hundreds of customers participate in NYISO's $2.5 billion dollar wholesale Installed Capacity (ICAP) market, which encompasses twenty-six separate auction events over two separate capability seasons. The individual selected for this project will work with the ICAP Market Operations team, IT, Market Monitoring, and other departments, to gain an understanding of important metrics and data, and then develop a repeatable process and mechanism to produce ICAP Capacity data visualizations.

The individual will gain a holistic understanding of NYISO capacity markets, market structure, and market participant behavior. They will develop hands-on experience with actual market data. In doing so they will be responsible for project management and product creation. Additionally, this intern will develop technical expertise in data analysis and management. They will develop communication skills, both verbal and written, and be expected to work across departments.

Duties and Responsibilities will include:
  • Identifying key metrics of interest to various groups within the organization
  • Building SQL queries, Tableau/Python visualizations, and associated documentation
  • Developing a comprehensive report with visualizations and analysis


Qualifications

  • Current enrollment in a Data Analytics, Computer Science, Economics, Finance, Business Analytics, Statistics or similar technical program
  • Experience with Microsoft Office
  • Statistical programming experience preferred
  • SQL experience preferred
  • Experience with Tableau or Python required.
  • Strong organization and time management skills
  • Ability to work at a high level independently and collaboratively
