Job Summary and Essential Functions

The New York Independent System Operator (NYISO) applies cutting-edge technology to operating a reliable electricity system, managing competitive markets for wholesale electricity, and planning for the Empire State's energy future. The NYISO invites applications for a full-time summer intern on the Demand Forecasting & Analysis team.

The selected intern will be tasked with supporting the team's data analysis and reporting obligations through the development of standardized analysis and reporting tools. These tools and templates will be incorporated in data analytics utilized in tracking short-term forecast accuracy and load trends and integrated into the team's software development initiatives. The project deliverable will also include a presentation and memorandum of data analysis/process tools developed and key results from exploratory data analysis activities. The intern will also assist Demand Forecasting and Analysis team members with the development of data set documentation. The intern will be tasked with developing scripts to process NYCA load and weather data, automating trend and error analysis, and generating associated data visualizations.

Qualifications

  • Current enrollment in program for Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Data Science/Analytics, Applied Science or a related discipline.
  • Experience working with data visualization and dashboarding tools such as Tableau or PowerBI
  • Experience with programming tools such as Python, SAS or Matlab
  • Ability to organize, analyze and correlate information, aggregate, transform, and integrate multiple data sets to test hypothesis and identify patterns and transform complex data and results into creative graphs, charts and tables for compelling and concise presentations
  • Ability to document methods and data insights for technical bulletins/papers, proposals and presentations
  • Ability to manipulate large datasets and using databases
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate with a technical and non-technical audience.
  • Passion for transforming data into actionable information for decision making is a must!
