Title: Instrument Controls & Electrical (IC&E) Technician

Position Type: Contract

Job Summary:

The Instrument Controls & Electrical (IC&E) Technician is responsible for maintenance to ensure proper functioning of equipment at a 1300MW Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCTG) Plant located in Joliet, IL. The Instrument Controls & Electrical (IC&E) Technician reports to the Maintenance Manager and is responsible for inspecting, repairing, and maintaining various types of plant equipment. The Instrument Controls & Electrical (IC&E) Technician also maintains several types of control systems to meet the specific energy generation requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Inspect, repair, and maintain various types of plant equipment.
  • May direct the work of employees and contractors.
  • Understands and can ensure proper operation of the plant.
  • May be responsible for plant oversight in the absence of management.
  • Repairs and calibrates equipment.
  • Troubleshoots equipment and systems, may be asked to train other employees in troubleshooting techniques.
  • Develop and implement plant operating procedures.
  • Ensures strict adherence to safety, health and environmental procedures as they relate to plant operations and maintenance including but not limited to: Lockout Tagout, Job Safety Analysis, Confined Space, Hot Work, Electrical Safe Work Practices.
  • Actively trains others in area of expertise.
  • Performs technical work or analysis of processes in areas of expertise.
  • Gains knowledge of the entire plant cycle and how it functions.
  • Operating, evaluating, maintaining, and repairing (low, medium, high voltage) breakers, switch gear, switch yards, motor control centers, AC & DC circuitry, electrical disconnect, transformers, lighting panels, HVAC UPS.
  • Evaluate, maintain, and repair electrical equipment & controls, relay protection schemes, electrical monitoring equipment, various operating gauges, instruments, PLC's and alarms.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair plant electronic, pneumatic systems, analyzers, facility computers, process control equipment and instrumentation.
  • Performs trouble-shooting activities on all plant electrical equipment. Must be able to troubleshoot and diagnose problems in systems, read and interpret online diagrams, electrical protection scheme, P&IDs, equipment specifications, and vendor service manuals.
  • Participate in major maintenance projects, including equipment overhauls and removal and replacement of major units and parts.
  • Inspects and monitors work of third-party contractors during major equipment repair or installation.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned.

  • Computer skills: Microsoft Office, email, maintenance management.

Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to frequently climb ladders; enter confined spaces; climb to and work from elevated platforms, ladders, and walkways at elevations of 80 feet and more; wear respirator.

Education / Experience:
  • Minimum of four years of related experience is required.
  • Minimum of a High School diploma or equivalent is required.
