Idaho National Laboratory (INL) believes that graduate studies are crucial for the next generation of engineers, researchers, scientists, and leaders. The INL Graduate Fellowship program, a collaboration between INL, universities and participating students, provides access to unique and state-of-the-art facilities and capabilities. INL is committed to integrating students with projects at the laboratory to fulfill their thesis research requirements. The INL Graduate Fellowship Program is designed to identify exceptional talent in research areas aligned with INL's strategic agenda to enable the current and future mission of the Department of Energy (DOE) and INL. This collaboration is designed to provide meaningful research, financial support, and mentorship throughout the fellow's Ph.D. program.
This appointment is awarded to Ph.D. students with interest in advancing the fields of nuclear energy, and clean energy deployment. Ideal candidates have exceptional educational capabilities and the potential for significant achievements. This appointment may support candidates represented broadly in an area aligned with INL's core areas of interest listed below:

Qualifications:

Application Timeline:
Application deadline is February 26, 2023 at midnight MT. Interviews and selections will take place throughout the application process with all final selections and offers extended by early May 2023. Graduate Fellowship provides a highly competitive salary ($60k) and we cover tuition and fees for up to two years?
At a minimum, candidates must: -
  • Be enrolled in Ph.D. program or applied to Ph.D. in a science or engineering discipline that is closely related to INL's mission. -
  • Have the support of their university during the required coursework portion of the Ph.D. -
  • Possess authorization to work in the U.S. -
  • Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.
To be considered you must submit the following:
  • Current Curriculum Vitae or resume -
  • Unofficial transcripts with current course description -
  • Competed INL Graduate Fellowship Program Application Form (attached in application) -
  • Letter of interest including: -
  • Proposed dissertation research -
  • Long-term professional goals - Maximum length:
  • Two pages in letter format (U.S. 8.5" x 11", single sided). -
  • Two letters of recommendation, one recommendation must be from Ph.D. advisor. Letters of recommendation can be emailed to Graduatefellowships@inl.gov.
Preference will be given to candidates who: -
  • Have research experience related to INL's mission -
  • Have identified an INL technical researcher for mentorship (however, if no mentor is identified, INL will help match applicant to technical staff)
