Title: Hydroelectric Site Supervisor
Position Type: Direct Hire
Location: Plattsburgh, NY
Reports to: Operations Manager
Status: Exempt

Job Summary:
The Hydroelectric Site Supervisor will be capable of the independent operation of assigned hydro facility equipment such as turbines, pumps, valves, gates, fans, electrical control boards and battery banks. The Hydroelectric Site Supervisor will monitor equipment operation and performance and will be capable of independently making or directing the necessary adjustments to ensure optimal performance. The Hydroelectric Site Supervisor is responsible for the support and participation, when required, in the call out process and is also responsible for directing the operation, maintenance and repair of the electrical and mechanical assets for assigned sites. The position also has a budget responsibility for assigned sites.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Developing and ensuring safety practices and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) are in place and implemented for all hydroelectric plant equipment such as hydro-turbines, generators, control equipment including switchyards for assigned sites with the support of the safety team.
  • Supervising preventive or corrective containment or cleanup measures in the hydroelectric plant to prevent environmental contamination.
  • Supervising the operation and maintenance of assigned sites within regulatory guidelines and producing all documentation necessary for accurate and timely reporting.
  • Working with technicians in developing electrical and mechanical maintenance plans for assigned sites.
  • Interfacing with the Operations Manager in the development of Capex, Opex, regulatory and improvement budget items and scheduling for assigned sites.
  • Supervising technicians and outside contractors in the scheduled electrical and mechanical maintenance and approved Capex jobs.
  • Providing feedback and or recommendations to the Operations Manager if scheduled work will affect generation or availability.
  • Developing and employing methods to improve efficiency and effectiveness of hydroelectric plant operations and implementation of capital improvement projects that will increase project profitability.
  • Keeping accurate records and preparing reports on the generation, maintenance, and repair of equipment at assigned sites.
  • Interfacing with the control and monitoring room in the operations of assigned sites.
  • Managing the coordination and execution of all outages to ensure cost control and minimize downtime.
  • Managing of inventory for assigned sites.
  • Interfacing with the training team on the implementation of the standardized qualification and training programs for all technicians at assigned sites and ensuring the completion of the programs.
  • Creating and managing personnel performance evaluations and reviews and assisting with personal goals.
  • Supervising of technician on-call team schedules

Job Requirements:
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communications, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Must have the ability to manage multiple direct reports on daily tasks and activities including time verification, personal time off requests and work scheduling adjustments.
  • Must have a strong initiative and drive for high achievement and continuous improvement.
  • Must possess a working knowledge of programable logic control (PLC) devices, personal computers, mobile phones and associated hardware and software as used in control applications.
  • Must have a strong problem solving and analysis skills, and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Must have a strong ability to prioritize workload to meet deadlines.
  • Willingness to work off hours when required.
  • Must possess a valid motor vehicle license.
  • Must be able to travel as needed.

Physical Requirements:
  • Safety equipment including but not limited to; hard hat, safety glasses, work uniform, fall protection, life jacket, flash suits, insulated gloves, leather gloves, safety-toed boots, push-in ear protection, and cold weather gear shall be worn in the performance of these functions.
  • May occasionally be required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs and ladders; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk, hear, or smell and may be required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • May be exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time. This could include, working in extreme heat or extreme cold conditions.
  • The noise level in the environment is usually loud and requires the use of PPE.

Education / Experience:
  • Associates Degree in Mechanical of Electrical Technology or other post-secondary training with five years relative experience with hydro plant operations and/or maintenance required.
  • Three 3 years of supervisory experience required.
