EV Charging Infrastructure Modeling & Simulation Scientist

The Caldera EV charging infrastructure simulation platform enables its users to develop control strategies and use artificial intelligence (AI) to holistically integrate electric transportation with the grid. Caldera is based on a first-of-its-kind library of high-fidelity charging models for a wide variety of vehicles, validated by test data under a range of operating conditions to bridge the gap between transportation and grid models while providing accurate co-simulation of both. Our team works a remote 9x80 schedule with every other Friday off.
- Bring expertise in modeling and simulation to participate in research, development, and deployment activities.
- Prepare and run Caldera simulation scenarios
- Play a significant role with activities focused on modeling charging infrastructure, EV adoption, charging network growth, and simulating EV charging across the country in a multitude of future scenarios.
- Participate in development of smart-charging control strategies.
- Support multiple simultaneous projects
- Construct complex simulation scenarios
- Manage, and analyze large data sets, and visualize simulation results that produce compelling insights.
- Work with teams from other parts of INL, as well as other national laboratories, universities, and industry partners.
- Develop external facing documentation of results, including peer reviewed publications, presentations, and reports.
- Prepare peer-reviewed manuscripts and external presentations
- Other activities as assigned by group lead or department manager in alignment with department activities, including professional development, business development and team building
- Level 2: PhD in computer science, electrical engineering or similar with a focus on modeling and simulation
- Level 3: PhD in computer science, electrical engineering or similar with a focus on modeling and simulation and 2 years' experience
- Proficiency in python programming
- Experience in the management and analysis of large data sets
- Demonstrated experience publishing peer reviewed articles and presenting at conferences
- Passion for telling stories and envisioning the future through simulation and data
- Strong interpersonal skills and success working on collaborative team.
- Experience in C++ programming
- Salary Grade: 210 / 220
