Title: Engineering Supervisor

Job Summary:

PIC Group is seeking an Engineering Supervisor to oversee and supervise design teams that are responsible for the physical design of transmission and substation projects. The Engineering Supervisor reports to the VP of Professional Services and will be located out of the Fort Mill, SC office. The Engineering Supervisor will provide substation and transmission engineering / technical support to the group and administrative leadership support. The Engineering Supervisor will have direct reports that include engineers and designers. This role will include both client project work and leadership responsibilities. The Engineering Supervisor is expected to lead projects, perform responsible charge engineering duties, manage project schedules as well as participate in employee development, recruiting and business development activities. The position offers excellent salary, benefits, and an annual bonus.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Create and improve processes for substation design project scopes, estimates, budgets, and schedules for substation and Transmission & Distribution projects.
  • Coach and mentor engineering professionals.
  • Oversee the work of junior staff and mentor designers/drafters.
  • Review work of subordinates.
  • Collaborate, communicate, and liaise effectively with other design disciplines, colleagues, construction contractors, consultants, materials suppliers, and clients.
  • Approve timecards and expense reports and assist in annual reviews.
  • Assist in recruiting effort.
  • Assist in business development and strategic planning.

Job Requirements:
  • Leadership and communication skills commensurate with leading a team of technical professionals in Engineering, Design and Drafting.
  • Advanced understanding of substation design to include equipment arrangements, lightning protection, grounding, lighting, equipment specifics, and substation construction as it applies to utility substation and transmission line equipment facilities.
  • Understanding of basic needs of protection and control and civil/structural discipline as they apply to utility substation and transmission lines.
  • Industry expert in checking designs for accuracy, appearance, and adherence to customer standards.
  • Ability to lead a team of engineers and designers in a lead engineer capacity.
  • Ability to create, reinforce, and improve technical teams in the execution of engineering designs for clients and the delivery of projects with high quality, on time, and budget.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference and fundamentals of plan and solid geometry and trigonometry.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondences, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to sit for long periods of time at monitor workstation.
  • When visiting client sites, must follow site safety rules and work in all weather conditions.
  • Must be able to frequently stand, walk, and sit for long periods.
  • Must be able to use hand and finger tools.
  • Must be able to climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

Education / Experience
  • Minimum of six years' experience as a practicing engineer is required.
  • A Bachelor of Science Engineering degree from a four-year college or University is required.
  • BS in Electrical or Civil Engineering is preferred.
  • State registration as a Professional Engineer is required.
