Performs systems maintenance and improvement activities to support the effectiveness of the Grid and Market Solutions (GMS) systems & applications. Participates in planning and evaluating the impact of system modifications and maintenance activities. Maximizes uptime and mitigates system failures. Analyze user requirements, procedures, and problems to automate or improve the GMS systems maintenance. Reviews system capabilities, workflow, and scheduling limitations. Designs solutions to help the organization operate more efficiently and effectively. Provides 24x7 technical support. Responsible for the integration of applications, code build, monitoring and regular maintenance of the GMS environments and ancillary systems. Assists and supports the troubleshooting of technical problems that result from data communications, equipment, or systems failures.
JOB DUTIES
- Broadly applies principles, theories and concepts related to the profession. A seasoned, experienced professional with an in-depth/full understanding of area of specialization.
- May provide recommendations regarding issues outside the bounds of defined procedures and practices. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.
- Wide latitude for decisions within assignments, programs, and projects; impact is generally limited to the project or department.
- Acts as a resource to advise and may at times a lead the work of lower level professional and/or support employees. Generally, represents the department on projects and may perform in a project leadership role.
- Routinely monitors GMS systems and applications, as well as regular maintenance activities.
- Coordinates and performs Model updates and upgrades in the all the environments.
- Assist Operations Engineering, Market Operations, and other business units during acceptance testing of new and/or enhanced applications.
- Performs patch implementation and migrations in the GMS systems
- Performs system setup and testing with Market Participants as appropriate
- Responds to systems and applications issues and operator questions on a 24/7 basis
- Works with market participants to resolve problems and implement changes
- Performs emergency recovery and troubleshooting of GMS systems and applications
- Develops and maintains strong computer skills including the common business applications such as Excel, Word and Access
- Works on all aspects of Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition technologies (SCADA), including implementing new technologies and participating in the development of SCADA standards and processes, to ensure the effective administration and maintenance of the GMS systems and applications.
- Maintains real-time data collection to support GMS systems
- Maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs the GMS systems, applications, and interfaces
- Proactively identifies design problems and drives resolution
- Participates in Disaster Recovery Drills
- Tests, certifies, and implements changes to the Test and Production environments
- Interfaces with ERCOT QSEs on regular basis to perform communication test and support
- Analyzes system performance and recommends business enhancements
- Represents GMS Systems Support department at interdepartmental meetings
- Works with vendors to clarify GMS capabilities and requirements; understands the vendor's needs, and resolve issues that may arise as the vendors work to make changes and improvements
- Performs systems maintenance and improvement activities to support the effectiveness of the GMS
- Participates in planning and evaluating the impact of system modifications and maintenance activities
- Trains and supports users on all aspects of the GMS and related applications
- Participates in industry meetings and discussions related to GMS technologies, to maintain and expand knowledge that is applied on the job
- May provide training or oversee the work of less experienced systems analyst
- May act as mentor and advisor to less experienced engineers/analysts
- Works independently on assignments and projects
- Participates in multifunctional teams to obtain input, address comments and perform studies
- Assists in developing tools, processes and procedures that enhance system reliability and departmental/organizational efficiencies
- Participates with other ERCOT departments to select and implement system changes as needed
- Serves as the recognized technical expert for the department within and outside the organization
- Provides oversight of the work of other engineers/analysts as required
- Responds to executive and management inquiries and special reporting requests
- Communicates results of analyses to appropriate stakeholders, including maintaining regular communication with the management team, providing relevant information to ensure compliance with all applicable requirements
- Examines, analyzes, and determines efficiency improvements for departmental and organizational processes and procedures
- Serves as the departmental representative on cross-functional teams, proactively providing technical, business, and policy guidance
- Serves as quality assurance and best practices resource within and outside of the department
- Builds strong professional relationships both internally and externally
- Networks with key contacts within and outside the electric utility industry
- Leads the work of projects and audits as assigned by management
- Prepares reports and presentations to stakeholder bodies, the ERCOT Board of Directors and regulatory agencies, including preparing testimony
- Experience with Hitachi's Market Management System or similar system.
- Experience with market systems, related to the deregulated electric industry, preferred
- Experience with Perl, Shell, PL/SQL preferred
- Experience with Oracle, XML, Java, and Web Technologies preferred
- Experience with OpenShift, Containers, Kubernetes preferred
- Experience with working on Windows 2019 or above, RHEL 6 or above and AIX preferred
Level 1 Requirements:
- No minimum work experience required
- Requires minimum 2 years job related work experience in excess of degree requirements
- Requires minimum 3 years job related work experience in excess of degree requirements
- Requires minimum 2 years experience in Energy Management Systems
- Requires minimum 5 years job related work experience in excess of degree requirements
- Requires minimum 5 years experience in Energy Management Systems
- Requires minimum 8 years job related work experience in excess of degree requirements
- Requires minimum 8 years experience in Energy Management Systems required
- Bachelor's Degree : Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related field (Required)
- Master's Degree : Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related field (Preferred)
- or a combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge to a major in such fields is required
- The majority of job duties can be performed remotely from your Texas residence.
- May be required to be on-site at the Taylor facilities at least once a month, or more based on the business needs and as determined by the Manager
- May select a hybrid work schedule of set days to work remote and on-site or choose to work on-site 100% of the time
