Idaho National Laboratory's (INL) Engineering and Product Development group is seeking forward-thinking professionals interested in exploring a technical career as a Nuclear Facility Electrical Power Engineer.
Since 1984, INL's Specific Manufacturing Capability (SMC) has been the lead manufacturer of armor packages for the U.S. Army's Abrams main battle tank. SMC has the ability to provide independent technical evaluations and solutions to manufacturing, engineering, and material science for a variety of programs and customers. Responsibilities Include:
  • Design, analyze, and document facility power distribution system modifications and upgrades. This will include proper application of national codes and standards applicable to the design, specifying required materials, preparation of construction specifications, preparation and approval of installation drawings, and other required documentation.
  • Designs may involve electrical components and power distribution equipment with voltages ranging from 120 volts up to 13,800 volts. Analysis may include system troubleshooting, circuit loading, flash hazard calculations, determination of PPE requirements, specification of system components, etc.
  • Support the Over Current Protective Device (OCPD) maintenance and testing program and interact closely with Maintenance Technicians and Planners to develop OCPD testing requirements and PM work orders to accomplish the testing.
  • Review designs from other engineers and provide electrical engineering expertise as part of a design team.
  • Update facility documentation to show current configurations.
  • Act as TPOC for power distribution systems and higher voltage electrical work at the SMC project. Work with maintenance planners and technicians to develop maintenance procedures for electrical systems and equipment.
  • Review and approve maintenance work orders for electrical equipment and systems.
  • Engage regularly with Project Engineers, Project Managers, and Construction trades to install approved designs. This may include following construction activities in the field, resolving construction issues, and approving design changes during construction.
  • Provide technical direction on proposals and strategic business ventures to ensure the work is being executed correctly and timely.
  • Provide leadership, mentoring, and direction to your team to ensure all assigned activities are being performed
  • Provide technical feedback to support procurement activities of capital equipment or other systems for plant modifications.
Minimum Requirements:
  • PR0300 - BS Electrical Engineering and 5 years relevant experience, MS Electrical Engineering and 3 years relevant experience.
  • PR0400 - BS Electrical Engineering and 8 years relevant experience, MS Electrical Engineering and 6 years relevant experience.
  • Must be a US Citizen and be able to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy (DOE) "Q" Security Clearance.

  • Salary Grade: 220 ($107,520 - $177,336) / 230 ($121,212 - $206,232)
