Position Summary

As a member of the Human Resources leadership team, the Director of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Giving works strategically to build an inclusive culture that celebrates diversity and giving. This role partners closely with the Chief Human Resources Officer, Human Resources Leadership team, business leaders, and internal and external stakeholders in the development and implementation of DEI and giving strategy. This leader fosters a culture where employees have opportunities to thrive, have a deep sense of belonging and feel valued while embedding DEI strategy into business processes and practices. Through community partnership and engagement, this leader advances Xcel Energy's mission and cultivates strong external relationships. Additionally, this role will lead a team responsible for managing company giving programs, the company foundation budget, and oversee related giving processes.

Essential Responsibilities

  1. DEI Strategy & Impact
    • Develop, implement, and influence DEI strategy, vision, and direction across Xcel Energy. Develop and execute a communication strategy that engages stakeholders at all levels and functions of the organization and externally.
    • Strategically embed and operationalize DEI into systems, processes, and policies across the business.
    • Collaborate and cultivate strong relationships with stakeholders across the organization to encourage, develop and promote an inclusive and equitable workplace that values diversity. Provide leadership, coaching, and support to stakeholders as needed.
    • Engage, enable and provide direction to Business Resource Groups to achieve results and align with DEI objectives.
    • Oversee Affirmative Action/EEO reporting.
    • Develop key DEI metrics, tools, and analytics (in partnership with stakeholders) to evaluate the effectiveness of programs and resources.
  2. Corporate Giving
    • Develop, implement and influence corporate giving strategy while overseeing the enterprise-wide corporate giving function.
    • Direct the development and implementation of policies and programs to drive corporate giving initiatives and objectives.
    • Oversee the use of related systems, processes, and evaluation metrics.
    • Partner and communicate with foundation stakeholders to understand support needs and overall objectives.
    • Oversee the company's United Way campaign including partnering with stakeholders to monitor and achieve results.
  3. Team Leadership
    • Recruit and develop employees.
    • Provide opportunities and resources for growth. Foster a positive, inclusive team dynamic.
  4. Community Engagement
    • Develop partnerships, cultivate relationships, and build coalitions within the community that advance the company's DEI and giving strategy and programs.
    • Represent the company at community events.

Minimum Requirements



  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Eight years of relevant work experience, including demonstrated experience driving transformational change across complex organizations.
  • Three years of management experience preferred.
  • Knowledge and understanding of EEO/AA.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing inclusion and diversity initiatives.
  • Involvement with non-profit or diversity-related organizations.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain relationships across an organization and with various external organizations, partners, and stakeholders.
  • Quality process focus, detail orientation and strong organizational/prioritization skills.
  • Exceptional communication and collaboration skills.
  • Dedication and passion for continual progression of inclusion, equity, and diversity in the workplace.
  • Understanding of corporate giving/foundation policies and practices.

The anticipated starting base pay for this position is: $136,000 to $192,666 per year
