Job Summary:
PIC Group has an opportunity for an experienced Control Room Operator (CRO) supporting a 580MW combined cycle plant in Blytheville, AR. The Control Room Operator (CRO) will report to the Operations Manager and be responsible for monitoring the status of all plant systems, controlling routine plant operations, taking corrective action to alarms and abnormal conditions, and performs basic routine maintenance duties. The Control Room Operator (CRO) will play a vital role in supporting a team of seasoned operators while executing plant shutdown and start-up procedures. The Control Room Operator position is highly compensated with excellent pay, benefits. Relocation assistance is available.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform Control Room Operator position duties, responding to abnormal and emergency conditions in the most effective manner, complying with all safety and environmental requirements.
  • Continuously monitor system and component conditions, evaluating those conditions to determine plant and equipment performance.
  • Maintain all plant equipment to meet plant dispatch requirements.
  • Report upset conditions or other anomalies in plant status to the Operations Manager.
  • Control the operation of the plant in a safe and efficient manner while remaining in compliance with all local, state, and federal operation and safety regulations at all times.
  • Assist in conducting acceptance and performance tests on existing or new plant equipment.
  • Perform emergency activities to maintain electric service and safeguard station equipment.
  • Perform basic maintenance duties such as predictive and preventative maintenance, replacing basic parts (filters, gaskets, etc.), valve maintenance, light electrical and/or controls work, etc.
  • Perform the tasks of opening, closing, racking, resetting, and routine maintenance on breakers and switch gear up to 220 kV.
  • Conduct basic trouble shooting and analysis on indication and control equipment.
  • Collect, analyze, and trend plant operating data and evaluate equipment performance.
  • Assist with major maintenance on plant equipment that is conducted by outside contractors.
  • Assist in physical inventories.
  • Participate in the revision and upkeep of plant operating manuals, technical references, prints and diagrams and preventative/predictive maintenance records.
  • Maintain complete equipment files, logs, drawings, and schematics for all designated equipment.
  • Operate plant and rental vehicles such as Aerial Lifts and Forklift Trucks.
  • Complete other tasks as requested by management.
  • Maintain assigned working locations in a neat and orderly condition.
  • The Control Room Operator gives direction to temporarily assigned personnel and contractors on matters pertaining to plant safety, operations, and maintenance.


Job Requirements:
  • Ability to operate from established procedures and perform duties independently under general direction and minimum supervision.
  • Ability to make decisions within prescribed operating procedures and guidelines.
  • Ability to think quickly when encountering work situations of high complexity, including abnormal or emergency operations (e.g., equipment trips, breakdowns, etc.).
  • Skilled in verbal and written communication when relaying information to supervisory and plant personnel relative to the condition of the plant equipment and performance and provide suggestions for plant improvement.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and collaborate with others.
  • Knowledge in hazard awareness and the safety precautions to be practiced in the operation and maintenance of power plant equipment and machinery.
  • Ability to work within and insure strict adherence to all safety practices and procedures.
  • Ability to respond to audio alarms and variations of sound.
  • Strong mechanical ability and aptitude.
  • Skilled in basic math skills
  • Proficient with the use of power and precision tools.
  • This position requires working in 12-hour rotating shifts with weekend and holiday work as required by schedules, workload, and plant conditions.
  • Ability to work in power plants and heavy industrial locations with varied temperatures.
  • A minimum of an active OSHA 10 Certification is required; an OSHA 30 Certification is beneficial.
  • Must have experience properly using protective equipment (PPE) (i.e., hard hats, safety glasses, ear protection, safety harnesses, etc.) for extended periods.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.

Physical Requirements:
  • Duties require walking, standing for extended periods, crawling, stooping, sitting, climbing vertical and inclined ladders and stairs, and lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Education / Experience:
  • High school graduate or equivalent, and trade school, related military service training programs, or technical training school programs.
  • 2+ years of control room operator experience with combined cycle power generation.
  • Experience with 7FA gas turbine experience preferred.
