Idaho National Laboratory's (INL) Construction Quality group is seeking forward-thinking professionals interested in exploring a career as a Construction Quality Inspector! This team works an on-site 4x10 schedule located at our Engineering Research Office Building (EROB) with every Friday off.
Responsibilities Include:
  • Provide independent quality assurance inspection functions in support of general construction/project management activities at the INL and at subcontractor facilities.
  • Activities include the performance of nondestructive examination; dimensional inspection; civil inspection including earthwork, concrete and structural; general mechanical/piping and general compliance to all subcontract, specification and drawing requirements.
  • Receive instructions provided in inspection planning packages and as directed by management.
  • Work independently with little supervision.
  • Manage several job tasks and schedule accordingly.
  • Communicate clearly with the customer base including construction and project management, quality engineering, and subcontractors.
  • Aid Quality Engineers during design reviews and inspection planning.
  • Assure the INL that work is compliant to requirements by verifying and validating work performed by others.
  • Perform inspection responsibilities from planning input through documentation and records.


Minimum Requirements:
  • Level 2- High School and 1-2 years related experience.
  • Level 3- High School and 2-4 years related experience.
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "L" / "Q" clearance, which requires US Citizenship.
  • Knowledge and skills in various Nondestructive Examination (NDE) techniques are required, i.e., visual inspection, liquid penetrant, etc.
  • Must be capable of using NDE techniques to solve complex inspection problems.
  • Must display a working knowledge of inspection codes and standards.
  • Able to work independently with the customer or crafts and work with customers when performing assignments.
  • Objective evidence of previous NDE qualification/certification including NDE certification, Training Diplomas, Experience Logs and Education
  • SNT-TC-1A certifications in NDE methods, particularly VT.
  • Obtain and maintain various BEA Inspector certifications in accordance with BEA's ASNT SNT-TC-lA Written Practice.
Preferred Requirements:
  • NDE inspection experience on commercial construction sites
  • Knowledge and experience in concrete and asphalt inspection and placement.
  • AWS CWI certification

  • Salary Grade 160 ($48,192 - $77,100) / Salary Grade 170 ($54,192 - $86,760)
