Objectives of the position include:

  • to coordinate with staff members and the Executive Vice President/Chief Executive Officer to develop and evaluate programs, policies, methods and procedures related to management, organization and personnel administration.
  • to serve as acting Chief Executive Officer in the absence Executive Vice President/Chief Executive Officer as requested by the Executive Vice President/Chief Executive Officer.
  • to plan, design, and provide proper construction and maintenance for all electric system plants and facilities to give the most affordable, reliable and safe service to new, existing and future members of Haywood EMC.
  • to provide efficient administration and control of Engineering and Operations in accordance with the rules, policies, and objectives of Haywood EMC, the State of North Carolina, RUS, and all other bodies as their interest must be served or appear.
  • to develop increased member understanding and support of the cooperative’s objectives, policies, plans, programs and the rural electric program.

Education & Experience:

Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering, ten years management or supervisory experience in an electric utility and Professional Engineer (PE) licensure in North Carolina or ability to become licensed within a year of hire.  Candidate must have thorough knowledge of electric utility systems, National Electrical Safety Code, standard electric utility specifications, construction materials and practices, and have ability to lead the engineering and operations department by developing plans, procedures and programs for meeting the established Cooperative goals, policies, practices and programs. 

Candidate must live within 30 miles of the Cooperative’s headquarters (376 Grindstone Rd., Waynesville, NC) or be willing to relocate.
