The Center for Advanced Energy Studies (CAES) is seeking a dynamic Research, Education, and Innovation (REI) Specialist to engage in CAES efforts to increase its impact by enhancing regional and national partnerships and collaborations.
CAES is a research, education, and innovation consortium bringing together Idaho National Laboratory (INL), Boise State University, Idaho State University, University of Idaho, and the University of Wyoming. The consortium leverages the capabilities of all its member organizations in a collaborative environment to participate in research, education, and innovation to overcome regional energy challenges that have national impact.
The CAES strategy rests on three strategic pillars: Research, Education, and Innovation (REI). The unique capabilities, expertise, facilities, and perspectives that come together through the consortium develop more than new energy technologies and solutions. Together, it inspires and develops the energy workforce of the future, stimulates intellectual exploration through fundamental and applied science, and brings industry and business together with researchers, students, and faculty working together toward solutions.
  • Research. CAES's collaborative research broadens teams and brings together world-class capabilities, facilities, and expertise.
  • Education. CAES's collaborative education augments the personalized learning experiences of students in the region through unique experiences afforded by the national laboratory that are not otherwise available.
  • Innovation. CAES's collaborative innovation supports entrepreneurial opportunities, industry partnerships, and tech-to-market impact.
Responsibilities: Reporting to and working under the guidance of the Director of CAES, the REI specialist will be supporting implementation of all three strategic pillars within the new CAES strategic plan .
This comprises execution of novel, actionable programmatic strategies for CAES in conjunction with INL and the consortium universities that are aligned with CAES capabilities, missions, desired outcomes, and short/long-term strategy and include:
  • Developing a research collaboration ecosystem with tools and engagement opportunities
  • Creating research hubs with focus area working groups and teams aligned around capabilities
  • Connecting research environments across the consortium with seamless campus and laboratory access, shared data, and uniform facility management
  • Developing the academic-research-industry pipeline to integrate education and research, provide hands-on research experience and increase enrollment, retention, and employment options
  • Integrating joint curricula programs within the consortium to optimize offerings
  • Assisting in the development of a mission-aligned professional development and training center
  • Building industry partnerships and collecting data on innovation districts and other economic development opportunities
  • Implementing deliverables and budgets to meet directorate work requirements consistent with CAES vision, mission, and objectives
  • Performing tasks as directed by the CAES Director
Minimum Requirements:
  • B.S. and 5-8 years of experience or M.S. and 3-6 years of experience generally requiring a combination of scientific and business educational backgrounds with experience pertinent to the energy sector
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks
  • Ability to present in public with excellent speaking and writing skills
  • Ability to represent CAES and INL in professional situations
Desired Qualifications:
  • Experience working collaboratively with faculty, students, and academic administration a plus
  • Project management certificate or commensurate experience a plus
