Reports to: Shift Supervisor
Status: Non-Exempt

Job Summary:
PIC Group has a unique opportunity with excellent pay for a Boiler Operator to support temporary gas fired mobile boilers located on a greenfield refinery project located in Dos Bocas, Tabasco, MX. The Boiler Operator will report to the Shift Supervisor and play a key role in supporting operations, routine and preventative maintenance, and troubleshooting of equipment. The Boiler Operator will assist the equipment suppliers during minor, and major repair activities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • A successful Boiler Operator ensures safe and efficient operation of the boiler, related auxiliaries, and balance of plant systems from outside the control room.
  • Perform installation, removal, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of boilers and associated equipment.
  • Start-up, operation, and shutdown of equipment, systems, and the plant in accordance with approved plant procedures, technical manuals and as directed by the Shift Supervisor.
  • Monitor and record local operating parameters, adjusting as required to maintain safe and efficient operation.
  • Read and understand mechanical prints and schematics.
  • Troubleshoot and repair gas and fuel pressure lines, boilers, heaters, pumps, compressors, motors, controllers, reducing station, and heat exchangers.
  • Handles corrective maintenance and preventive maintenance in a timely and high-quality manner as assigned.
  • Visually inspects and listens to equipment at periodic intervals to detect malfunctions or need for repair, adjustment, or lubrication
  • Inspect boiler fuel tanks.
  • Attend regular status meetings with project team.
  • Effectively communicate relevant project information to superiors.
  • Resolve and/or escalate issues in a timely fashion.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
  • Mechanical, instrumentation and electrical equipment knowledge is required.
  • Knowledge and understanding of all phases of boiler operation including steam, water levels and quality, pressure valves and piping.
  • Knowledge and experience with steam boiler controls and interfaces.
  • Ability to complete daily and operational log sheets for each shift.
  • Ability to complete preventative maintenance as provided by OEM.
  • Knowledge in occupational Health & Safety, specific to hazard assessment and mitigation planning.
  • Timely completion of pre-job safety plans for the work being performed.
  • Knowledge with basic water chemistry and chemical addition processes as related to boilers and water systems (samples will be analyzed off-site)
  • Proficiency with operational safety practices, processes, leading and lagging indicators
  • Proficient in use of portable fire extinguishers and firefighting skills
  • Excellent communication skills; both written and verbal
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to work both indoors and outdoors, requiring physical activity, including climbing ladders, working at elevations, bending, twisting, kneeling, crawling, pushing/pulling, standing, walking, and moderate lifting
  • Moderate noise level in the work environment.
  • Exposure to weather conditions will be commonplace; a self-contained, heated, and cooled area.

Education / Experience:
  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • 3+ years boiler operator experience is required.
