Job Summary and Essential Functions

The New York Independent System Operator (NYISO) manages the efficient flow of electricity on more than 11,000 circuit-miles of high-voltage transmission lines, dispatching power from hundreds of generating units across the state. The NYISO's Interconnection Studies group invites applications for a full-time Associate Planning Engineer.

The Associate Planning Engineer, Interconnection Studies will coordinate, perform and review technical studies related to the interconnection of proposed new generation, transmission and load facilities to the New York State transmission system. As well as assist in coordinating with other System & Resource Planning groups and NYISO departments to prepare various reports and filings as necessary. This individual will also be responsible for responding to customer, regulator or other outside inquiries and assist in development /review of new or modified documents such as tariffs, manuals, reliability standards, etc.


Qualifications include:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field required; Master's degree desired. Course studies related to power system planning and design highly desired.
  • No prior experience required; however those with up to two years applicable experience are encouraged to apply.
  • Knowledge of power flow, transfer capability analysis, and/or stability is preferred.
  • Experience using PSS/E, ASPEN and/or MUST is highly desirable.

The NYISO offers the flexibility to work both in the office and remotely, providing our employees with an enhanced work life balance. While the majority of the responsibilities of this role can be performed remotely, in most cases, employees will have periodic on-site requirements based on business needs.
