Job Brief

Develop short-term forecasts of load and renewable generation using advanced statistical forecasting methods. Benchmark and track the performance of the forecasts for strategic efforts and operations support. Participate in industry groups to determine best practices for forecasting techniques.

Job Responsibilities
 

  • Evaluate and implement the appropriate models forforecasting ofrenewables and loads and serve as a liaison between SRP and selected vendors. This includes studying and innovating new forecasting methodologies that integrate fine-grained data sources, such as near real-time cloud forecasts, into forecasting models to keep SRP at the leading edge of the industry standard in this area.
  • Serve as a lead contact for the operations teams on needs for renewables and short-term load forecasting. This includes maintaining the modelsand addressing significant load forecast errors.
  • Benchmark, track, improve, and communicate the performance of the load and solar forecasting models and collaborate with IT on maintaining the infrastructure.
  • Track availability of renewables to ensure thatthey are meeting the targets identifiedinthe purchased power agreements.
  • Draw conclusions from the forecasting of real time renewable resource variability and battery production to apply to future strategic efforts.
  • Anticipate planning needs, identify/address gaps, and satisfy operational readiness needs.
  • Deliver high-level analysis, data, and business solutions to Executive Management to aid in decision making.

 


Education

Completion of a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution that prepares the employee for the assignment.

Experience

Promotion to Level 2 requires a minimum of two years experience at Level 1; demonstrated capability to perform advanced and more difficult work as determined by the supervisor. Promotion to Senior Level requires a minimum of three years experience at Level 2; is fully competent in all aspects of functional area of assignment and as such would be recognized as a specialist in area of assignment and may have periodic or occasional lead responsibilities.

Additional Information

 

 

 

  • Preferred experience in statistical analysis, data science, or forecasting techniques
  • Familiarity with computer programming (VBA, SAS, SQL, Python, R, etc.)
  • Refined communication skills
