Position Description
Idaho National Laboratory (INL) is seeking an enthusiastic applicant with experience in advanced manufacturing and modeling for a post-doctoral appointment. The applicant will perform research using advanced manufacturing for applications in heat exchangers, heat pipes, and embedded sensors supporting Department of Energy Programs (Microreactor) and laboratory directed research and development. The applicant will use modeling and analysis techniques to support the advanced manufacturing work to gain insights to the processing and material properties. They will publish results in internal reports and journal publications. They will maintain familiarity with scientific literature in the area of performance criteria, industry needs on novel reactor systems. The applicant will contribute to proposals for continuing research.

Qualifications:

Required
• PhD Degree in mechanical, nuclear, materials science or related engineering
• Experience in direct energy deposition or laser powder bed fusion advanced manufacturing methods
• Modeling experience for advanced manufacturing analysis (thermal, structural, fabrication processing, thermodynamic, etc.)
• Excellent communications skills, both verbal and written
• Strong record of research and publication
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience in nuclear applications
• Characterization experience (microstructural examination, nano indentation, hardness, XRD, SEM, etc.)
• Programming languages or methods (python, machine learning)
