ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Prepares and files property tax returns for multiple state and local jurisdictions, processes tax payments and maintains all records associated with the filing of property tax returns.
  • Maintains working knowledge of state and local property tax laws.
  • Ensures accuracy and completeness of property tax assessments from various jurisdictions; contacts assessors to resolve discrepancies in statements received.
  • Maintains relationships with tax assessors; responds to questions and provides information/clarification, as needed.
  • Provides direction and oversight to other staff and/or contract personnel in property tax return preparation and payment processing.
  • Supports accounting, reporting, and forecasting for property taxes.
  • Research various property tax issues.
  • Provides support to external auditors by responding to questions, preparing schedules, etc. in the course of quarterly reviews and annual audits.
  • Supports the maintenance of property tax and sales and use accounting systems, including system upgrades
  • Supports research, special projects and development projects as needed
  • Supports other tax department projects and initiatives as needed.

REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or relevant, equivalent experience and/or education.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of tax or accounting experience required, including three (3) years of property tax experience preferred.
  • Utility experience preferred.
  • Experience with property tax software preferred.
  • Ability to research and analyze various types of data and information.
  • Ability to effectively communicate (verbally and in writing) information to all levels (internally and externally) so that others not familiar with the area are able to understand information being provided.
  • Possess sound analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Understanding of the importance of solid documentation and ability to apply these concepts.
  • Intermediate knowledge of personal computers (MS Office) and demonstrated ability to utilize to complete daily assignments.
  • Intermediate knowledge of financial systems with the ability to extract information, as necessary, to complete daily assignments.
  • Ability to work well on a team or independently.
