Job Brief

Focus on the development of wireless communications systems and concepts for microwave (Aviat, Cambium and Harris Constellation) and two-way radio systems (Motorola digital trunked, MA/Com Master III vhf conventional, GE Voter, Avtec dispatch console network, Prism paging server, and many others). Work in a team environment to define and describe robust RF solutions for field applications and coverage. This requires strong technical skills, ability to plan and design these networks, motivation to investigate new concepts.

Job Responsibilities

• Provide expertise in both analog and digital radio frequency (VHF, UHF, and Microwave) operational theory.

• Designs and develops complex and significant architecture for microwave, two-way trunked, and conventional systems.

• Prepares specifications, evaluates bids, and prepares recommendation materials for management consideration when evaluating large or complex systems.

• Provides mitigation plans for underperforming metro wide wireless networks

• Performs engineering design, analysis, and studies in wireless networks

• Performs as a staff consultant and/or advisor in wireless networks

• Applies experience to carry out the development of analysis, simulations and tests to verify system functionality for the aforementioned systems.

• Helps develop and supports unique methods and tools for the design of RF components and systems

• Partners with other engineers and management to integrate components into highly complex systems.

• Develops detailed test and verification plans for new technology

• Improves and maintain lab facilities.

• Actively recommend system improvements

• Actively contribute to process development, improvements, and knowledgebase sharing.

• Work with management on programs and budget forecasting.

Education

Completion of a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution that prepares the employee for the assignment.

Experience

Promotion to Level 2 requires a minimum of two years experience at Level 1 and demonstrated capability to perform advanced and more difficult work as determined by the supervisor. Promotion to Senior Level requires a minimum of 3 years experience at Level 2, is fully competent in all aspects of functional area of assignment and as such would be recognized as a specialist in area of assignment and may have periodic or occasional lead responsibilities.

10 years professional experience in discipline related to Information Systems is desired.

Additional Information

Network Specific Knowledge and Skills:

  • Knowledge of network routing, switching, communications protocols, OSI model and experience in designing, deploying and supporting an enterprise network
  • Ability to troubleshoot and solve problems in a time-critical environment and to work simultaneously on a variety of tasks with varying degrees of complexity
