Even as the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic continues to have ripple effects, states and utilities have begun to pivot from their net-zero goals and aspirations to examining ways to accomplish them. ScottMadden's upcoming Energy Industry Update (EIU) explores how energy industry stakeholders interested in achieving net-zero carbon emissions are shifting their focus from “whether” to “how.” It also examines recent weather events in California and Texas and their impacts on system performance as well as recent themes for various sectors of the energy industry.

This free webcast will be based on ScottMadden’s EIU and provide a great opportunity to take a step back and consider what is happening, what it means, and where our industry is headed.

During this session, ScottMadden’s energy experts will share their views and field questions related to the advancement of fleet electrification and why electric utilities should start preparing now, Massachusetts’ recently released decarbonization roadmap, and the role transmission can play during the transition to net-zero.

Join us to hear from Kevin Hernandez, partner at ScottMadden; Josh Kmiec, director at ScottMadden; and Farzeen Tejani, manager at ScottMadden. Cristin Lyons, partner and energy practice leader at ScottMadden, will serve as the webcast moderator.

  • Why will electric vehicle fleets grow to become a new class of electric customer? What can utilities do to take advantage of the opportunities that electrifying the transportation sector will provide? Kevin Hernandez will discuss these questions and more as he examines this new class of electric customer.
  • Josh Kmeic will explore Massachusetts’ vision to reach net-zero emissions as laid out in its 2050 Decarbonization Roadmap. He will explore some of the assumptions that underpin the roadmap, the potential impacts to electric and natural gas utilities, and why it deserves attention both inside the commonwealth and beyond.
  • As decarbonization efforts lead to accelerating development of low- to zero-carbon emissions resources, linking those resources to demand centers becomes a growing priority. Large, high-voltage electric transmission can be a significant piece of regional and national emissions reduction strategy, but moving interregional projects to fruition has been challenging. Farzeen Tejani will discuss the potential benefits of transmission development in this environment, its historical impediments, and some emerging policy developments that may jump-start it.

As a registered attendee, you will also be able to access the EIU in advance. Join us!
