The deal: Hitachi will take a minority stake in Shermco, a Texas-based firm recently acquired by Blackstone that provides maintenance, repair, and testing services for utilities, data centers, and industrial clients. The tie-in unites Hitachi grid tech, Blackstone capital, and Shermco field expertise.
The investment: Hitachi is also putting over $1B globally into expanding its service business—including its new HMAX Energy digital platform, which uses AI and predictive analytics to improve asset performance and prevent outages.
Why it matters: With 70% of US transmission lines decades old and workforce shortages mounting, the partnership aims to create a leading energy service provider capable of upgrading aging systems, improving reliability, and supporting the electrification of data centers and heavy industry.
