2 Casino Ransomware Attacks: Caesars Paid, MGM Did Not

Could this be one of the catalysts that causes Officers and Directors to take cybersecurity controls more seriously, along with the SEC Cybersecurity Regulations that take effect in December 2023?

"On Thursday, Caesars Entertainment revealed in an SEC filing what had been reported Wednesday by Bloomberg and the Wall Street Journal: that the company had been the victim of “a social engineering attack on an outsourced IT support vendor used by the company.”"

Companies tend to outsource "mundane IT tasks", like password resets to 3rd party vendors. Officers and Directors are beginning to realize that cyber-risk is business risk and they need to think more carefully about what tasks really should NOT be outsourced, especially if they can result in devastating cyber-attacks. A greater focus on cyber-risk by Officers and Directors is coming in December 2023.
