While a handful of sceptics think we need MORE OVERSIGHT over transmission project development (as if there isn't already enough) Federal Energy Regulatory Commission Chairman Richard Glick said at a Nov. 15 meeting of a joint federal and state task force on electric transmission: “We need to make sure consumers get the best bang for their buck.” I will add that "best bang for the buck" rarely translates into the cheapest solution. I will argue here that we need to move away from the cheapest solutions and go for projects that offer the greatest overall consumer and environmental benefits even if the initial cost is slightly higher.
