According to a new report from the Energy Information Administration, utilities in the U.S. have increased annual spending on transmission infrastructure by nearly 400% since 2000, from $9 billion to more than $40 billion. The increase could be owed to more focus on aging infrastructure and updating transmission technology as renewables take a stronger hold in the market.
