The proposed New England Clean Energy Connect project keeps hitting roadblocks. The latest came Tuesday when a Maine Legislature committee voted 9-0 to endorse a bill to require the state to cancel and potentially renegotiate a lease on a strip of public land along the corridor where the transmission line would run.
The reason that could pose a threat to the project is because the bill would also require any new lease agreement on the land to be approved by two thirds of the Maine Legislature, a majority that could be tough to secure given the controversy over the project.
