The wholesale capacity markets continue to expose the immense forces putting pressure on an already tense situation between State and Federal authority over Resource Adequacy and Fuel Mix. PJM's FERC filing regarding the MOPR rule this week and an effort by MA State Attorney General Maura Healey to study the phase out of natural gas are just two examples of the tensions that exist today. The only real question in my mind is: Will this tension result an earthquake level effect that destroys the wholesale capacity markets or will these forces find a symbiotic approach to relieve the tension and find a solution that supports State Energy Goals while ensuring reliable electric supply for all Americans well into the future.
Keep in mind, we all lose without a reliable electric supply that keeps people safe and the economy buzzing along AND we must address the serious consequences of climate change that can severely impact human health and well being. These choices are not mutually exclusive, we MUST have both; reliable electric supply and a healthy planet for future generations to thrive and survive.
