Energy and elections in Brazil
The insertions of the parties on open TV, as required by the electoral law, show nothing about the energy strategy to be adopted if they win the upcoming presidential race.
Three most important aspects should be on the agenda of discussions regarding energy::
1°) The search for lower costs as Brazil has been, for years, the most expensive among the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa),
2°) The addition of competitive generation, transmission and distribution capacity and sized to enable good and systemic economic growth and,
3°) How the country will achieve and maintain a clean energy matrix that meets global commitments to reduce emissions.
Will any of the presidential candidates approach these issues in a structured way or will they simply, as tradition dictates in our country, base their speech on customary cliches?
