Hitachi ABB Power Grids has opened a research and development center at its Canadian headquarters in Montreal, which is pictured in the photo accompanying this item. The center is Hitachi ABB's seventh research center — it has four others in Europe, one in the U.S. and one in China.
The center will work to help Hitachi ABB Power Grids capitalize on the opportunities arising from the increasing amount of data being produced by the growing number of smarter, connected devices being deployed across grids worldwide. The center also will focus on mitigating potential threats arising from the increasing connectedness of grid assets.
To help Hitachi ABB Power Grids achieve those goals, the center will work with other researchers in the area that are focused on applying pioneering and digital technologies to make grids stronger, smarter, and more sustainable. It also will foster collaborations with key customers in the region that make important contributions to the evolution of energy infrastructure.
Hitachi ABB Power Grids is a joint venture between Hitachi and ABB that was formed in July. It will become wholly owned by Hitachi after 2023.
