Peter, in your estimation what percent of America's electricity customers want to monitor and control their energy consumption, to have a solar array or a storage unit, or to see electric vehicle chargers rolled out non-stop? My guess would be fewer than 5%.

My guess would be most consumers, especially lower-income ones, would give it all up for a low monthly bill and to know the light will turn on when they flip the switch; to know a cold snap won't leave them shivering in the cold, without power, for days on end.

Shouldn't these add-ons be optional - or should everyone be forced to subsidize playthings for affluent customers with too much time on their hands?
