The US smart grid now faces many challenges, such as aging facilities, a changing energy mix, and growth of renewable sources, whose infrastructure is emerging. One company’s challenges represent another’s corporation’s opportunities. Consequently, venture capitalists are stepping up their efforts to address the problems. They invested a record $936 million in in smart grid startups in the first nine of months of 2021, compared to $643 million raised in 2020, according to Mercom Capital, a financial services market research firm.
