The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission will have five full 5 Commissioners seated with D.C. Public Service Commission Chairman Willie Phillips, the U.S. Senate confirms. Much work is coming down in the next year related to transmission planning and generator interconnection reform, state opt-out for demand response, RTO compliance filings for FERC Order 2222, and transmission line ratings. It's never a dull moment when it comes to FERC, especially when we have the full 5 Commissioners seated. It remains to be seen if this FERC would tackle the carbon price in dispatching resources at Independent System Operators.

Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) is a major energy policy-setting institution for the U.S.

Landmark FERC Orders related to energy markets include:

  • FERC Order 719 and 745 on demand response compensation
  • FERC Order 1000 on competitive transmission planning
  • FERC Order 890 on regional planning
  • FERC Order 841 on electric storage resources, and
  • FERC Order 2222 on distributed energy resource aggregations.

Some FERC orders have ended at courts, like the demand response at the Supreme Court Of The United States (SCOTUS) and the recent FERC Order 841 at the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals.
