Everyone in the East Coast was talking about the worst air quality on record yesterday, and today is even worse as a result of the wildfires in Canada. As we get closer to 2030 and transition to a fully or partially 100% clean and renewable energy system that rely predominately on solar and wind, it is not secret that operating the grid will be challenging without base load generation and operators need to be fully comfortable relying on energy storage; however, remote events, and disasters, such as this current event will challenge a very large geographical area and will result in major resources such as solar and possibly wind not generating at all or have a reduced output for several days, stressing the available energy storage resources. We need an accurate weather forecasting tool that will learn from this current event; AI is promising in this field.
I hope everyone is safe.
