Big news out of RE+ today! The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has announced the release of its latest Pathways to Commercial Liftoff report, this time focused on Virtual Power Plants (VPPs), underscoring the critical role that VPPs need to play in an affordable, reliable, and clean energy future for all Americans.
The "Liftoff" reports, which have been facilitated by the DOE Office of Technology Transitions, are part of a department-wide initiative to strengthen engagement between the public and private sectors to accelerate the commercialization and deployment of key clean energy technologies by identifying and characterizing the barriers and opportunities for capital allocators across key energy sectors.
Some key issues addressed in this VPPs Liftoff report include:
• Expanding DER adoption with equitable benefits
• Simplifying VPP enrollment
• Increasing standardization in VPP operations
• Integrating into utility planning and incentives
• Integrating into wholesale markets
