Several state orders are currently examining the implications of making utility data more accessible to third parties and customers. Some states are going further and broadening the data pool to include more than just customer-metered end-use data. The purpose of democratizing the data is to meet a growing demand for customer meter data for the purposes of accelerating the development of clean energy and spur market innovation. California and Texas were the first followed by New York. Now as many as eight states are examining the potential for a state wide data hub. Coupling the hub with grid data will further market developments in clean energy and grid modernization.
