SBOM has changed the entire Cyber Supply Chain Risk Management (C-SCRM) field by adding a more "product-centric" focus to the software risk management process. SBOM enables software customers, especially those subject to NERC CIP-010-3 software integrity requirements, to evaluate software supply chain risks proactively, before any attempt to install software or change a baseline. Software customers no longer have to "install software blindly", without knowing what's inside a software product. SBOM provides a level of transparency needed to prevent the installation of malware in the Bulk Electric System command and control ecosystem.

Today's announcement from NTIA, in response to the 5/12 Cybersecurity Executive Order, sets the stage for Government agencies to take control over their software supply chains risks.

Never trust software, always verify and report!™
