Nuclear power: France's race against time to build new reactors
The government's project is limited to future construction sites near existing plants, but there is the prospect of relaunching "the great adventure of civil nuclear power," as promised by Emmanuel Macron in February 2022. Touting the climate merits of low-carbon electricity, the French president expressed his desire for the country to build six new reactors, called EPR 2, with the possibility of adding eight more by the middle of the century.
