Massive Canadian hydroelectric project brings fourth unit online!

With the fourth unit now operational, BC Hydro has begun testing and commissioning the fifth unit at their Site C project in northeastern British Columbia, Canada. The 1,100-megawatt hydropower plant is on track to have all six generating units operational by fall 2025. Once fully operational, Site C will provide enough clean electricity to power nearly 500,000 homes, increasing BC Hydro’s electricity supply by eight per cent. Two new 500-kilovolt, 75-kilometre transmission lines have been built and energized along an existing right-of-way to connect Site C to the overall transmission network through the existing Peace Canyon generating station. The service life of a well-designed, well-constructed, and well-maintained concrete dam can reach 100 years.
