This is an illuminating new infographic produced by Selin Oğuz and Samuel Parker for the Visual Capitalist. The data was compiled from bp's Statistical Review of World Data and the International Energy Agency (IEA). Fourteen Asian countries rely on coal as their primary source of electricity. In 2021, China produced 62% (5,339 TWh) of its electricity from coal-fueled power plants.
