Coal’s share of power generation in PJM has dropped more than 5 percentage points since February while output from natural gas plants and wind farms held steady. In Europe, it’s down 2 points. And in China and India, coal is losing market share during the pandemic. The global lockdown and falloff of demand has disadvantaged coal generation resources. The pandemic is “accelerating coal’s demise,” said one analyst.
