Coal's march towards oblivion as a power generation fuel in the U.S. continues apace. GenOn's announcement earlier this month that it plans to close its three coal-fired units at its power plant in Dickerson, Md., came four days after the Energy Information Administration said the output from the nation's coal-fired fleet hit a 42-year low last year.
