US energy consumption will continue to grow through 2050 as population and economic growth outpaces energy efficiency gains, according to the US Energy Information Administration (EIA). Renewable energy will grow faster than other market segments as utilities continue their push away from fossil fuels. However, petroleum and natural gas will remain the most-consumed energy sources as their pricing continues to fall, making them appealing to energy companies.
