Pandemic Led To a Record Drop in Energy Demand
How much of an impact did the pandemic have on the energy market? In 2020, energy consumption declined by a record 7.5%, according to the US Energy Informaiton Administration (EIA). In Hawaii, energy use fell 24%, the largest decline of any state. Alaska was the only state where energy consumption rose primarily because it was the only state with colder weather than in 2019, according to data from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
