Opportunity: gen sets

There is in Brazil a considerable park of generator sets installed by companies and institutions.

In my experience providing energy consultancy to commercial and industrial consumers, I found out that the vast majority does have this form of backup.

Thus, they have an alternative for the interruptions of the electric energy supply via the public grid, avoiding the losses of stoppages of their activities.

This park could also be stimulated to generate energy when the National System Operator needs to dispatch thermal plants to meet the Brazilian national demand - especially when the hydro reservoirs are low.

Thus, there would be important economic-financial benefits for everyone.

1) Local generation avoiding the use of transmission and distribution systems,
2) Variable cost of local generation comparable to that of thermal plants,
3) Reduction or even elimination of investments in new thermal plants and,
4) The source being bio-diesel is an interesting alternative.
