Opinion: Building an interstate system to move electricity could cost $50 billion -- or less than what the Texas freeze and power outages cost users
Something I've not thought about but only adds to the argument for developed transmission and interconnections between U.S. regions: the different timezones can relieve the load stress and cut costs during peak demand. East to west transmission allows energy created in the west, say around 3 p.m. when demand is low and the price is cheap, to be sent to the East coast, where it helps subsidize demand with cheaper energy during its peak times. It will be interesting to see where Biden's plan takes our energy infrastructure, if it passes, that is.

A macrogrid like Biden's infrastructure plan calls for would make it easier and cheaper to move power across the five North American power grids.
