Electric vehicle charging won’t destroy the electricity grid
Yes, there are some technical challenges with adding EVs to the grid, but they are surmountable problems that can be solved with existing technology and systems.
Electric vehicle chargers are just another electrical load. As such, their widespread deployment won't cause any problems that wouldn't be caused by the widespread deployment of any other devices or appliances with similar loads.
That's the message that Evan Beaver, the charging manager at Australian EV charging network ChargeFox, has for people freaking out about whether the grid can handle a surge in EV growth without some sort of radical makeover, and he backs it up with some sound logic that makes good reading for everyone, regardless of whether they're in the electric power industry.
