Homes and businesses in rural areas find energy delivery inefficient and expensive. In fact, Alaskan energy costs are five times higher than the national average. To find solutions to the problem, the Cold Climate Housing Research Center (CCHRC), an Alaska-based lab, and the National Renewable Energy Lab (NREL) are developing new building materials that function well in harsh conditions.
