A critical Step by Step Approach is needed for Successful CCUS Project

-Key learning from recent CCUS project was effort should be focused on Successful CCUS project, not just Permitting or regulatory approval.  Other learnings are:

  1. A step by step approach  from site screening to Site selection and then Site Characterization
  2. Managing uncertainty is key; range of subsurface realizations are needed to cover the range of uncertainties and risks
  3. Models are used for identifying data, but also for monitoring CO2 plume propagation with time and it’s verification with modeled forecast.
  4. Focus of uncertainty management should be on all three critical elements of CCUS project; CAPACITY, INJECTIVITY & CONTAINMENT
  5. Social & regulatory issues are equally important as are G&G and the technical issues

Step 6: Calculate the cost per tonne for CCS. Then either get Uncle Sam to pay for it or scrap the project and use the money to build renewables.

It seems to me that Carbon Capture CCS is like adding a Catalytic converter to a gas engine trying to reduce the pollution you are making. Instead produce the power with no pollution like an 4x more efficient Electric car that has no catalytic converter or exhaust or transmission and saves brakes by using regenerative slowing. The best solution is to make a clean system that doesn't need to be treated.
