PV rooftop solution cost in Brazil

PV rooftop solution cost in Brazil

I simulated a house that has a monthly consumption of 400 kWh of electricity to be served by photo-voltaic solar panels installed on its roof.

The investment (ref. portalsolar) in the complete installed system, considering the conditions of sunshine and a 60-month financing with a 2-month grace period is R$ 600/month (USD 140/month) with little variation from city to city in Brazil.

This means that the financing related to the energy produced is R$ 1.5/kWh (USD 3,5 cents/kWh) or R$ 1 500/MWh (USD 350/MWh).

This amount is much higher than the rates granted by ANEEL (regulator) to the electricity distributors, including taxes. Thus, to make it feasible, we must consider:

1) Subsidies

Do you believe they will be honored?

2) Obtain much longer financing

So that the monthly payment is lower

3) Will the suppliers be alive in the long run?

During this extended financing period, will the company that provided the system still be there and actively honoring the maintenance contract?

Welcome to reality!
