Energy: are we there?

Two real-life episodes can be valuable in assessing perceptions and expectations around the energy business.

1) Meeting with a power trader

The CEO of a large company was very concerned about the price and conditions negotiated (power contract) a couple of years before. He wanted to re-negotiate. In advance I had warned him that the chances of success were slim because the trader would have to bear a significant loss.

The CEO of this power trading company one of the largest in the country, politely listened to the request and quickly offered the solution: what do you prefer Prozac or Ritalin?

2) Advice from the psychoanalyst (my friend)

The patient came to sessions and invariably complained about everything. The psychoanalyst listened carefully until the opportunity arose. He gently informed the patient - of a certain age - to be calm, because "the end is near"!

In both cases, there is an important aspect in common. Reality shock. Something that is lacking also in many corporate environments when it comes to energy.
